Pan's Labyrinth

I saw this movie a while ago and well nope I didn't do a movie review for it. So here we go.

OK GO SEE THIS MOVIE. It is so well done, the visuals are stunning and very alluring. There is something about them that really draws you into the story. Now they aren't as glitzy perfect as a big budget hollywood blockbuster, but there is something a bit more real to them. The story is amazing, very well written and executed. You really feel for the characters who are the "good guys" and you hate the fascists like you should. The entire movie is in Spanish and since I don't speak a lick of it, I had to read the subtitles. You forget they are there after about 20 minutes though. They kinda just blend in and your mind almost fools you into thinking that you are hearing the words rathering then reading them. What a great movie through and through I can't say this enough. Its a great fantasy movie blended in with a very good drama set at the end of the Spanish Civil War at a remote outpost.

94/100 go see it, its worth it.

Wow its been a while...

Hey there strangers. Nah I'm not dead. I just really haven't felt like writing anything I suppose. I haven't had a ton of amazing things to write about. But I have a back log now I do suppose.

Christmas was fun I got some nice presents. I got a lovely pair of 400TC Ralph Lauren sheets. Ok are you done laughing at me now? OK little bit more? You good? Ok so yes I love them. The less you wear to bed the more you will appreciate the high quality of nice sheets. They are so soft and its simply amazing.

I am now 24. Woohoo. I'm almost a quarter of a century lol. I feel so DAMN old. So my family and I went to Bennihanas for lunch yum. Then for dinner Eric Reynolds, Sean Frett, Amy Hebert and Andy Hebert all went out for yummy cheap Martinis at a lounge I like in Wicker Park. Amy got to be our DD, Thanks Amy! 21 Martinis were consumed. I had 8.5 What a champ huh? Good times.

For a Christmas/Birthday present my whole fam. got me a Wii. One catch, it was when they could find a Wii. Which I would still be wating for since they are non existant around here unless you were going to camp, and I so wasn't going to do that in the winter. So I caved on my birthday and ordered a Wii off Ebay. $400 BIN plus $20 for overnight shipping. That was a pretty good "deal" for Ebay at the time so I was happy. Lets just say its been worth it. I'm addicted to Wii Sports. Its such a simple game but I can't get enough. I have Zelda, Rampage and Call of Duty:3 also but those have barely been touched since i'm so into Wii Sports right now. Don't be jealous that I'm pro at Baseball, Tennis and Bowling ;)

New Years Eve was fun. No kiss for me. Oh well last years didn't bring me any lukc in relationships I suppose so fuck it eh? Got nice a spiffed up and partied at my house. We watched The Bears lose hardcore (can we get a repeat at LXI please?). Then the booze was broken out, and so were the video games. We rocked down to Wii Sports and Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II thanks to Mr. Erick Smith a.k.a. E-Sauce. Rides showed up for people and everyone left at about 3 am and I was sad. I was drinking Red Bull Vodkas and had lots of Red Bull. I was ready to party all night. I ended up staying up til 5. Woohoo.

Work work work after that and now it is finally slowed down. School has now resumed. I have classes 2 days a week but full ass days. Oh well it really isn't all that bad.

So I was thinking for this year I think I need to make more actual prints of my pictures, and start taking pictures more often again. I think that means I should buy a printer. I've got my eye on a nice Epson professional number that can do up to 8x10's (well 8x12's really but I really would only do 8x10). I would get it a nice b&w inkset then so it should print up some pretty nice photos. Kinda expensive though. About $200. I need to get some photos up on my walls though so it would be worth it. If anyone else wants prints post a comment, If I do end up getting a printer you are all welcome to prints of whatever you want since you are all my lovely friends :)

So lets see. Yes I am single now. Lots of drama that really isn't your business unless I've told you and yes thats that.

I've been working a lot, and guess what it sucks worse than ever. It seems like all we have now are a bunch of Christmas helpers. Lets just say they are the worst this year they ever have been. Don't get me wrong a couple are cool, but still I am getting tired of answering dumb questions and babysitting. Its not my job.

I'm looking forward to New Years Eve. I must get on a few things for that still. Such as the erotic cake molds. Don't forget boys and girls who are coming, get your suits and dresses cleaned and ready to go. Now is the time to do it so you don't have to rush at the end.

Happy Feet

Ok so the Stunning Ms. Rachel loves penguins, so it was a given that I'd be seeing Happy Feet. Being that I am such a good boy, I found and procured us tickets for the 12:01am showing of Happy Feet. I mean really who would have thought that there would be a 12:01am showing of such a movie, but alas there was a showing so we went.

I have to say that the movie was a lot better than I thought it would be actually. Honestly I wasn't expecting all that much, but what I got was a fun and feel good movie. It had amazing computer graphics, a suprisingly decent story for the type of movie it was, fun characters, a diverse soundtrack, and just a fun time all in all. There were tons and tons of what the Ravishing Ms. Rachel would call "Pengies", but who could have seen that one coming? My favorite were the "Amigos", they were 5 smaller and decidedly "Mexican" penguins. The Mexican penguins were led by one of the Characters voiced by Robin Williams. There were a couple of parts of the movie that honestly reminded me of Fellowship of the Rings when they were walking in the snowy mountains.

Basically let me say this. If you take this movie for what it is, a fun family animated movie, it is amazing. I have to say this was actually one of the best computer animated movies that I have ever seen. As such I give it a...

What better to do on a rainy Friday night?

So the fetching Ms. Rachel had Friday off, and I managed to get myself off work ;), so we were planning on doing something fun and spending the day together. So I have been wanting to go to the Opera and discovered the NExt program they run. They sell you tickets for the Opera for $20 ea but you and all your guests have to be full time college students with valid IDs. So luckly for me Rachel wanted to go and at the last minute tickets for this day appeared and I got them the day before and yay we went.

We saw Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. It was an amazing show, but more on that later. First off the opera house itself is amazing on the inside. The decor is amazing and the accoustics are just stunning. You could hear people cough in basically the entire place they echoed so well. The crowd was an intresting mix of people, mostly towards the elderly end though. Our seats were very good also. I can't exactly tell which section on the main row we were in, but we were either in Mainfloor section 2 or 3 meaning if it was section 2 those tickets normally were $149 each or $117 each for section 3. Now I'm pretty sure it was probably section 3, but it is also very possible that it was section 2. Not bad for $20 ea.

The opera itself was amazing. Now I have never seen an opera before, so this was a new experience for me. The opera was sung in Italian and they then projected the subtitles in English right above the stage. The singing was breath taking, the singers really do have amazing voices. Add in the amazing playing that the Orchestra provides and you have a great combination. I wont go on too much about the details of the actual show but you can read about it HERE if you like. What I will say though is this, if movie writers and directors would write a show of the quality of the Opera we saw then we would have a much better set of movies going around. Now I don't even know if the specific Opera we saw was even one of the better ones out there, but the story and the execution of tell the story really struck me as being of a very very high quality.

After the show we waiting quite a while for my car from Valet but it was worth the wait in the end. Then we decided to stop for dinner and we went to one of my favorite restraunts, the TWISTED SPOKE. The Twisted Spoke is not exactly a dressy place so I thought eating in a suit and tie there was fun. I enjoyed my favorite, a foot long twisted weiner with a super sour puckerpuss (vodka with fresh squeezed lemonade with a bit of pucker). Rachel enjoyed an order of Jalepeno poppers and a fine 2006 vintage water. It was a yummy dinner, I just wish I had some quarters so I could have gotten adult novelties from the bathroom vending machine.

All in all it was a great evening. I highly recommend to all you college students reading, go check out an opera at the LYRIC OPERA when you are in town and get a chance.

Saw III

So tonight I took the inebriated Ms. Rachel to the movie shows this night, and we ended up seeing Saw III since she has gotten me to see the first 2 lately.

Saw III reminded me more of Saw II than it did Saw. When the movie was finished I was basically like meh. I had been told that it was better than the second one, but honestly I didn't think so. I basically got the feeling that the two of them could have been pushed into one 3 hour long movie and just been one movie. There weren't that many great twists in this one I thought, and that for me made it an inferior movie to the first one. I thought the blood and gore in this movie were a little over the top, basicaly I mean they were there just to be gross not to actually futher the story or the movie at all. The brain surgury scene was just downright disgusting. So yes meh I give it...

Once again the fetching Ms. Rachel wanted me to see Saw II, after having seen Saw, and before seeing Saw III.

Honestly I really don't have a whole lot to say about Saw II. It really wasn't as bad as I had figured, but it also really wasn't anything that I would consider memorable. I did enjoy the people in the house with the gas flowing in, but honestly I don't really thing it was a good as the first. Of course you have to compare it to the first since its a sequal so I think I am fare in doing so. I think the movie relyed on gore and shock a bit more than the first one, which I think was its downfall. The "twist" towards the end was so-so. All in all i'll give the movie a.

So I didn't make it on Friday, but I did make it on Saturday evening with the incomparable Ms. Rachel. Now Rachel had seen Borat already, she managed to get to see it free and a month or so early by the way of a free myspace preview. LUCKY! So I had been looking forward to this movie for quite some time after hearing all about it.

Let me just say it was amazing. Not only was it laugh out loud hilarious, I thought it was really a fairly a pretty intelligent satirical comedy. You can tell that Sasha Baron Cohen is not just another random Tom Green doing funny things to random people and filming it. This was a well put together movie that was funny and really it was something new and fresh. The Borat character was amazing. If you didn't know better and weren't told you almost might believe that he was really making a documentry if it wasn't for some of the over the top things they added in (i.e. Running of the Jews). So basically you all really need to go and see this movie. This is one that should win an award for its creativity, but sadly probably wont. I'll give it...

Running with Scissors...

Since Borat was lame and didn't have any 12:01am shows on Thursday evening I went to see Running with Scissors with the lovely Rachel. We were the only people in the theater, which was odd, so she put up arm rests and layed down. I found that funny.

There really really should have been more people at this movie. It was a really good movie. I thought it was hilarious, it was a dry and somewhat dark comedy I would say. The story was amazing and I think all the actors did a really great job. The soundtrack was also a bright spot in this movie and it fit really well with what was going on in the movie. I like that in a movie, it makes the movie come alive a little bit more for me. There are so many times when you will watch a movie and a song comes on and you're like WTF? This just makes me enjoy the good movies that much more. So anyways yes go see Running with Scissors. This is one of those movies that wont be big but it really should be. Happy November?

Well now that October is done, that brings us to you guessed it... November. To me this is the real start of the Christmas season, not the day after Thanksgiving anymore. Christmas just keeps getting pushed back earlier and earlier. In the like of "work" that I am in the Christmas season is really not a happy thing.

Retail can be hell all year long, but if retail is hell then the Christmas season is like being frozen in the 9th layer of hell. The Christmas season is supposed to be about love, caring, giving and selflessness. Someone please tell that to the people shopping at my store. I notice the exact opposite actually. The closer to Christmas it gets, the more angry and mean people get. This brings me to my next point...

I feel like such a grinch because in the last few years I have really started to hate the Christmas season. Working at Carsons has really ruined it for me. I dread the crowds, I dread the constant drone of the same 20 christmas songs from the 50's crooners, I dread the long hours, I just plain dread it all. You know what? This makes me really sad too. I don't want to be a grinch, I don't want to hate Christmas.

I want to just be a kid again and enjoy the Christmas seasons that I remember as a kid. I want to look forward to watching Frosty the Snowman on TV. I want to read the Grinch who Stole Christmas. I want to make a Christmas list, maybe I will write one. I REALLY want to go with to cut a christmas tree down, but that can't happen since its always the day after thanksgiving we go. I want to go driving around looking at the extravagent christmas lights. I want to go to the brookfield zoo to see Holiday Magic.

So who knows maybe I can snap out of my grinchary this year, wish me luck all...

So yesterday the impish Ms. Rachel came over and we went to the Jaycee's Haunted House in Lombard. It was a fun time, and I wasn't too scared, but some other people might have been. Luckly though there were no chainsaws involved and we survived the clowns at the end. After a hilarious stop at Omega it was back to my house and it was pumpkin carving time. First off I got my dad to give me a power tool to try to carve the pumpkins. No good power tools were found, and I tried using a dremel but it had a polishing attachment so it didn't really do a whole lot. How sad :( So there was paper on the floor already from my sister and mother carving pumpkins, and my sister had written "cunt" on the paper for whatever reason. This of course inspired my cunt pumpkin. I took a roll of film while carving and that should be done on Friday so pictures will be shared then if you care. So Happy Halloween boys and girls...

Well as I had actually thought the suprise was going to Great America for the last day of Fright Fest. Since someone was running late, I won't name names, I drove up to the H.P. and we were off after a couple quick stops. We got to Great America at about 10:30 and we left oh I'd say about 7:30 or so, so to say the least we had a full day.

Now I am not a fan of fast rides basically at all. Before today I'd never really been on a Rollercoaster. I don't really care for the sensation of almost weightlessness. Of course Ms. Rachel was able to talk me into going on the American Eagle. I had a death grip on the bars all the way up the first climb until she made me hold her hand going down and that just made it more scary! So I quickly went back to my death grip on the bar. I went on the giant drop then too with Rachel and her sister Julie at the end of the night. That was not another favorite of mine but I did it anyways. I closed my eyes on the way down though *shhhh*

So to recap even though I am a baby, and most of the day involved me standing with the girls in lines and waiting while they went on the rides, I still had a whole lot of fun.

Andy Warhols: Blood for Dracula...

So we were going to watch Saw II since I've never seen it, but ended up watching a classic from the Andy Hebert DVD collection. I selected Andy Warhols: Blood for Dracula. This movie is odd as I am sure you can guess. It really does scream Andy Warhol to me. Its not the normal vampire movie, in here Dracula needs to obtain the blood of a virgin to sustain his "unlife". He ends up heading to Italy because they decide there is a better chance to find a virgin there due to the Italians being very religious. So Dracula is very sick and what not, and oddly enough can travel outside in sunlight. He also does not have to sleep in his coffin so that makes his travel a whole lot easier.

So this movie is quite an odd one, its the kind of movie that to like you really have to be a bit off I suppose. The acting really isn't all the great, and some of the parts are just a tad odd such as Mario the communist handy man. With that said, it really is a B-rate movie gem if you ask me. If you take it for what it is, and enjoy the quirks of its B-rate glory then you will enjoy it and join me in giving it a:

Last week Rachel asked me when I started and finished work, at the time I didn't know so I told her such and asked her why she asked. I got no response, the standard "I was just curious" Fastforward to a couple days later and I found out for some reason I actually have the day off. Now I normally work every single Sunday, but for some reason this week my manager just accepted what the computer gave me and didn't rework my schedule giving me a million closings and making me work Sunday. So I told her I had Sunday off and still I get no clue as to what is up. I knew something was up but yet I'm still not sure what. So her sister mentioned to her something about are we still doing that trip on Sunday in front of me. Of course the two of them then got tight lipped. So today she leaves me a voicemail while I was at work and I called her back from work and she informed me to be ready at 9am. So I guess I will find out at 9am what is up, boo for suprises I hate the waiting...

The Prestige review edited

The Prestige was an intresting movie, but in the end it dissapointed me and didn't live up to all that it could have. The cast was great, and didn't do a bad job. I think the problem was really with the story and the way that it was put together, or rather wasn't. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman were suppurb as the two young magicians. The supporting actors were great also, especially Micheal Caine. It was in ways similar to The Illusionist, but it fell far short of that movie also. What The Prestige lacked was the great tie together at that end that just makes you go "WOW" that The Illusionist really pulled off perfectly. It wasn't an all together un likeable movie, It had its moments and of course it had David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. So all in all I shall give it an...

As you all should know by now the New Years Eve party is the one party a year I throw. Well this year isn't going to be any different. Last years New Years Eve party was not all that it could be and I was somewhat dissapointed. That is why I am starting early this year. Last year suffered from last minute planning and lack of devotion. Not this year. So I'm getting the word out now that it is happening, it WILL be a formal event once again, there will be boobies on the wall, and it will be fucking amazing! So I just realized that I haven't really posted anything about myself or what I've been up to in a while. I've just been posting movie reviews over and over. I'm going to keep doing that because I'm enjoying it, even if you aren't, but now I'm going to try to remember to post other stuff too. I really want all of your comments. They are like crack to me, and I just need them so damn bad ;)

So I had 2 last paid vacation days at work that had to be used by the end of October so I took them Friday and Saturday of this weekend. I ended up spending the vast majority of the time with Rachel. We went to Goberts on Friday in the first part of the day. Goberts for you not in the know is a kids oriented pumpkin farm in umm I think like Hoffman Estates or somewhere near that. They pick the pumpkins and put them all out there for you. They have some other stuff around there to make it all fall like and fun. A few overpriced pumpkins were aquired, and my mouth was burned by hot chocolate and that got a good laugh. I managed to aquire stains on my shirt while there so our next stop was to get me a new shirt lol. We first took her laptop over to Circuit City since it was broken and after dealing with many stupid people it was finally fixed. Then I finally found a good shirt at Saks Off Fifth it was purchased and I changed in the car. Next we drove around lost for a while then finally found the Sushi bar we were looking for. Now Rachel has the skill of being able to make me try nearly anything. She got me to try a cucumber roll. Now I couldn't finish it mind you, but I tried valiently lol. Next I tried these little bean things that looked like pea pods that she said is raw tofu I guess. I just can't remember its name. I also tried some shrimp thingy she would have to tell you the name of that too, but I know it was cooked. It was a fun time, then we hit the movie and twas all.

Today once she came over we drove on out to DeKalb then to Rochelle and then finally on to Dixon to procure some more pumpkins, especially a white one, and also some squirrel corn. We first went to a place where you get to take a tractor into the field and pick some lovely pumpkins right off the vine. We basically got all rag tag misfit pumpkins with big lumps and warts. They are great. Next was on to this wonderful house in Rochelle. Rochelle is a small little town about 12 miles or so west of DeKalb on I38. The house has some great gourds and pumpkins. I got a giant gourd like pumpkin that must have weighed north of 50lbs, that I very nearly dropped but I held it! A small white pumpkin for Rachel was also had. Finally we drove the nearly extra 30 miles on to Dixon just to pick up some, are you sitting down, squirrel corn for my parents. Its really just dried up corn on the cob that you feed to the squirrels. Its hella cheap too so they loved it. It was pouring rain when we arrived and when got our corn and left. One of the bags that had the squirrel corn in it must have also had some lovely chicken shit on it too because it stank something fierce and made my hands stinky too. We then stopped at the, no i'm not kidding, Hardees for some hand washing action lol. So then it was back to 88 for the drive home. We had dinner at YUMMY Claras and that was our day.

So there I wrote about my weekend, what I'm up to and something other than movies. I'm off to write one more post for the night about New Years Eve, are you excited?

Nightmare Before Christmas in 3 FUCKING D bitches........

Yes you got it right this review is for the Nightmare Before Christmas, in yes 3 FUCKING D! So ok I've never seen this movie before. I know its a crime and all I really should have seen it. But what better way to see it than in 3 FUCKING D. The movie was great, but I'm sure like everyone else in the world already knows that since the movie has been out forever. The characters are great, the music is funny and fits perfectly, and the visuals are amazing. The movie really made me want to go out and purchase tons of halloween stuff and save it for christmas and give people scary halloween stuff for christmas. Hmmm maybe I will do that :). So yes its out there, maybe its even in your town so if it is honestly go and see this its worth the upwards of $11 they charge due to it being all crazy 3 FUCKING D and you getting to keep the 3 FUCKING D glasses. Harold and Maude...

Ok now this one is good. This is a movie that I had never seen, and I found out that I really needed to see. It was Ms. Rachel that got me to see this movie, it is her favorite and I bought it for her after much searching since she didn't own it. I really loved the characters in here. Harold and Maude are both great well developed characters who have wonderful flaws and quirks to them. The mother was a great supporting role also, her responses to Harolds suicide attempts were classic. How can any movie that has a Jaguar XKE that is painted and turned into a hearse. What an amazing car. I need to see this one again I think, because the dialogue track was somewhat quiet and I think I missed some of the lines. I really think that this is one of those movies that gets even better with the more times you see it. So for now, I give it:

Well I don't really need to say much about this one other than it was really god awful. Dane Cook really just isn't that funny, or at least I haven't seen it. He was good the first time I saw him on SNL. Then I saw him uncensored on Dave Attels insomniac tour on Comedy Central, this time not really funny. I saw him on SNL again the starting show of this seasons SNL, not so funny. Even his monologue was bad, so you can't blame that on SNL's current rather shitty quality. Now after seeing this movie I don't really have any confidence that he is actually funny. I don't even need to say anymore, its really not worth it. I give it:

OK I just realised that I forgot to write about Jackass 2 since it was a movie and I saw it. This is really a hard movie to rate in the normal sense. Lets see, yes it was hilarious. But you have to realize that yes I do find Jackass funny. If you don't well I promise you that you will not like this movie. If you do like some stupid and mindless comedy and guys doing crazy shit well you probably have already seen this. I saw the first movie with the good guy Brendan Sullivan. So we once again saw this movie. There are some very funny parts so I say check it out, come on you know you want to have some fun.

So how do you rank this? I don't think I can since it really is a stupid movie, its just funny as hell. Based on artistic quality like a 12 lol, but based on fun had at movie more like a 90.

Ok i'm bored and feel like writing a little something something. So I thought I would give you all a list of movies that I would like to see. So here we go

Marie Antoinette: I don't know why I want to see this, but for some reason I do. I doubt i'll even like it since I HATE Kirsten Dunst but something about the way the film looks in the previews does it for me.

The Prestige: This is probably top of my list. Another good late 19th century magic based movie, such as the Illusionist. This one seems a bit darker maybe. The actors include Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, DAVID BOWIE, and how can you go wrong with Scarlett Johansson ;)

Running With Scissors: I keep seeing previews for this, and I can't wait also. This looks wild and dreamy. It looks like a fun and intresting movie. Should be a good time.

Sleeping Dogs Lie: This could be the, pardon the pun, sleeper coming out. The movie sounds bizarre, but I could see this either being really really funny or just retarded. Who knows which it will be, lets find out...

Borat: The previews during Jackass 2 were hilarious. I have an inside source, she knows who she is, who saw this already during a free preview and said its absolutly hilarious. I want to give this one a go.

Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus: An intresting story about a really great photographer. This could be an intresting one to see if I get the chance to hit up an art house type theater. Hopefully it isn't a repeat of the *shivers* Notorious Betty Page.

Happy Feet: I have a feeling I'll be seeing this one for sure. I know someone who loves penguins. So this one is a shoe in I believe.

Bobby: With the cast in this one I think it has a very good chance of being pretty darn good. As long as they do a good job with the story, I think it will be a great movie. Not to mention that Bobby is one Kennedy that I would actually have voted for.

The Fountain: This looks like an intresting concept and I would like to see how it will turn out.

Ok Andy this one is for you. You asked for video reviews and i'll give you one. I watched Garden State with the lovely Ms. "YoursTruely" the other day so here we go.

I don't feel like talking at large here because I'm hoping that most all of you have already seen this movie. I love the visuals in this movie, they are very well thought out and deliberate. I love the scene where he is at airports bathrooms and walks past the sinks and they all go off one after another. I loved this. When Zach Braff's character has a staredown with his friends character, Peter Saarsgard, while his friend is removing the jewelry from a body he is about to bury. The looks they exchange speak volumes. The movie is really a well thought out and well done movie. The soundtrack also fits the movie like a fine tailored custom suit. You can tell that Zach put a lot of thought into the soundtrack and placing it with the movie.

This one will get a 94 from me.

The Departed

I'm not sure I have a whole whole lot to say about this movie. It was very well done I thought, and there was some pretty good acting in there. Leonardo DiCaprio sure was quite a bit different than his Titanic days. Jack Nicholson did a great Job as the Irish mob boss. There were plenty of plot twists to keep you intrested. Some of the quippy dialouge was a bit much at times I thought, but not so bad that it distracted or anything. All in all I'd say its worth the see, especially if you like the sort of movie that it is. I wouldn't say that its one of those movies that everyone will like no matter what, but it certainly is likeable

I'll give it an 84

Well in the past I have talked about Cheeseburgers, now I think it is time to talk about another great american food. Yes you got it from my title, the grilled cheese. I have always had a hard time making a really good grilled cheese at home. I don't know why it has always been such a hard thing for me to obtain. I always had figured it had something to do with my mom buying margerine (or however you spell that crap) and not butter. Well boy was I wrong. I have found something that worked just great for me. OLIVE OIL...

So ok my technique that I have now developed for making a good grilled cheese is as such:
1. Pick a good bread: This is important, normal old white bread is ok but not as good. Try to get something a little thicker or otherwise just better. I have liked the results from a nice seaseme italian bread. Just please no wheat or whole grain, because that stuff sucks.

2. Olive oil instead of butter: What I do is take a small plate and pour the olive oil on it. Let it spread out to cover the whole surface, then simply place the bread down and let it get a good even covering of olive oil on the cooking side.

3. Pre-heat the cheese side: Before dropping the cooking side (side with the olive oil) on the cooking area put uncoated side down for a little bit to heat it up and make it hot when you put the cheese on.

4. Cook open faced: Now what I do is flip the bread over so the cooking side is now face down and cooking. You now place 1 slice of cheese on each side. I guess if you have really thin cheese you can add more, or if you are just a cheese fiend. Now just let this go for a while and cook. You can tell when the cheese is starting to melt. Check the browness level of the cooking surface of the bread periodically. When its getting close to the desired level of browness combine the two halves of the sandwich.

5. Finish the cooking together: Now that your sandwich is whole give it a few more seconds on each side until you are happy with the browness levels of the bread.

Now you are all done with your yummy grilled cheese. So GO GO GO and try a grilled cheese with olive oil instead of bread. It makes a nice sandwich. Pssst another hint, if you want to be a little crazy throw a slice or so of your favorite lunch meat on there. I like turkey ;)

The Illusionist...

Here is another movie that I had been looking forward to seeing since it came out. How can a movie with Ed Norton and Paul Giamati be bad? The answer is well it can't. The setting of the movie looked amazing, and the little information that I got from the preview looked very promising. I had heard a few people talk about it and their reactions ranged from Meh to "I heard it wasn't very good".

That said I will have to say this is one of the best movies I have seen in a very very long time. The preformances by Ed and Paul were just fantastic, certainly a movie that I would keep in mind come Oscar times. The story was outstanding. It was an extremely well written story line that keeps you guessing and at the end it all makes sense and hits you in a big way.

The visuals were impeciable. The movie had a fantastic look to it, the costumes were great and the scenery was well picked. The film had that certain intangible quality to it that really seperates the truely well shot movies from the rest.

That said GO SEE THIS MOVIE. It was better than Little Miss Sunshine for my money, even if they were different types of movies. I will not hesitate to give this one a very solid

The Last Kiss...

I had really been looking forward to seeing The Last Kiss ever since I heard about it. I am a big fan of Garden State and when I saw that Zach Braff was doing a new movie I was thrilled. The preview made the movie out to be more of a Garden State looking movie than it really was.

The acting was good, but not Garden State good. I dont' know how anyone could even expect it though, Zach Braff did not write nor direct this one. It actually seemed to be a version of an Italian movie. That being said since he didn't write the character himself like he did in Garden State, its really not a fair comparison.

The story to the movie was good and I thought very solid. The other actors were great too in the movie and really did a good job in support. All in all a solid movie but honestly it just didn't wow me the way that Garden State did. So i'll give this say:

Ok so this isn't the best picture but you get the idea. Yesterday Mr. Sullivan and I attended the Gnarls Barkly concert. For those of you who don't know (been living under a rock?) Gnarls Barkly is basically DJ Danger Mouse (beats) and Ceelo (vocals). I'd say its hip hop for white people, with a healty bit of nerd thrown in. During the performance, which was very good by the way, I turned to Sullivan and remarked how much DJ Danger Mouse looks like Andy Kayacan. During the show he was wearing Aviator sunglasses and from the crowd it was a very close match. So Andy, Is he your brother? :)

Little Miss Movie Review...

Ok so it has been a slow movie summer for me. I haven't seen too many movies and I am honestly sad because of that. I have wanted to see Little Miss Sunshine since I saw the first preview of it. Well I finally saw it on Monday.

It was nothing short of Brilliant. It was an extrodinarly funny movie, but most of the humor was fairly high brow humor I thought. I liked that. The characters were all flawed and their flaws were wonderful. The flaws gave them humanity and made them truely intresting to watch. I was impressed by all of them. I think the best acting job in the movie was Steve Carrel. I was shocked by his performance, I was expecting something more outlandish and silly ala 40 year old Virgin from him, but what I got was a wonderfully acted part. Sure he had his jokes, but he played his character perfectly.

Now that I am back in school I think I will try to make movie reviews a bigger part of my blog. I watch a lot of movies during the school year during my extra time, so hopefully I should have alot to say. There are a lot on my list already, and I've seen many more hopeful ones on the horizon.

So for a raiting I will give Little Miss Sunshine a 92/100.

(As a disclaimer no movie can really ever earn a 100, that would probably be near impossible. I'd only give my all time favorite movie a 96 I'd say.)

Well as a follow up to yesterday I have pictures from drinking and then playing with fire that were taken with my cellphone. Eric Reynolds painstakenly crafted a fine torch out of a stick, papertowels, a LOT of wax, gin, and spary adhesive. It burned nicely and lasted a fair amout of time too. We didn't waste that tourch, we walked into my back yard using that as my only light source. It was an adventure. Without further delay...

So yeah the title pretty much says it all. I'm drunk, and Eric just left. So Brendan doesn't have any pants on , just boxer breifs and he is playing my DS lite. ITs pretty funny. Basically tonight consisted of BBQing, minus Brendan, Bowling again minus Bendan and then Drinking. I pretended to be Kerry Wood and Mark Prior and threw marshmellows at Brendan and I almost hurt my arm too just like them. So Brendan totally has a stalker at work, and we were totally leading her on. I think I asked her if she would do Anal with Sullivan. She didn't say no, thats all I'm saying. Oh I almost forgot the best part. We were playing with fire while drinking. What a great idea eh? We ended up making tourches our of sticks, paper towels, gin, spray adhesive, and wax. Erics burned really awsome and we went advernturing. It was hot until Brendan insisted on getting his nipple sucked with a wine cork vacum deal. Then he put it down his pants and "it" didn't fit he claims. What a fucker I made him clean it and as penance I made him stick a cheese and sauce less piece of pizza down his underwear for over 5 minutes. Then he tossed it in the neighbors yard. Then an animal is going to eat it. It touched Brendans penis. That means in a round about way, an aniaml is going to eat Brendans penis. HOT.

I just had to post that video, it was on yahoo's front page last night. Not only did it make me laugh hysterically, it also reminded me of our dog Lucky. Now when Lucky was around he would have never made it past 1 snack on his nose the way that dog looked just made me remember him. Silly dog, I'm proud of him or her though that is an awful lot of snacks it was balancing without eating. I don't know if I could have made it...

Well I've had my new phone for about a week now and I've gotta say I enjoy it. It isn't perfect but its nice. Lets list a few pluses and minuses.

Pluses:
+ Wireless Internet: need I say anymore? Browsing the web is very nice, its even come in handy helping me locate a Quiznos that I would have missed otherwise. Speed isn't even that bad around 200Kb/s
+ Not quite as large as I though: The size actually isn't that bad. I'd say the height is about the same size if not a touch smaller than a standard non flip phone, the widwith is somewhat more. Now the depth is the killer.
+ Txt Messaging: It makes sending a txt a much easier proposition. It has a QWERTY keyboard.
+ Availablity of Programs: It looks like there are lots of fun programs to play around with available for the phone, only problem most of them cost money.

Minuses:
- Thickness: The phone is a bit thicker than I'd hoped for, not a whole lot but it certianly provides a quite large phone boner in my pants.
- Keyboard Size: This one isn't a huge minus but yeah the keyboard isn't huge its hunt and peck with the thumbs but the more I use it the better I'm getting.
- No 3G service: In large major metropolitan areas there is currently 3G internet service, UMTS from Cingular. It gives about 1-2Mb/s internet speeds or about 5-10x what i'm getting now. I wish this phone supported that, sadly it doesn't. There is a new version of this phone that has a processor about 2x as fast and supporst 3G. Sadly its only available as a manufacturer direct phone, I.E. the cheapest i've seen a store selling it is $745. Hopefully when that comes down I can upgrade.

Alrighty thats all for now, I'll keep you all updated on the phone when I finally get a sling box and get that up and running so I can watch TV on the go.

yes it is true, this post is being sent to you over GRPS from my new cell. it is a Cingular 8125 typing on its tiny keys is a bit of a challenge so far but it is getting easier. Haha ok so beare with me because I'm still drunk right now since I just got home. haha ok so here we go...

Ok so we took the train downtown and hopped on the brown line and we were both hungry so I suggested the Twisted Spoke and we went there. Its on Clark St. I'd say about 3400 N. Clark. So while there we got dinner, Me a foot long twisted weiner(hot dog) and Sean a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. We also got some super awsome tasty dirnks. I got super sour pusses, 3 of them. Its just a vodka lemonade with pucker in it. YUJMMMMM> Sean got fresh squeezed Screwdrivers. So I was watching the Cubs and damned them they were losing.

Then we were done and walked towards Wrigleyfiled and turned to Halsted and walked over ther. WE walked and saw everything and then I lfet the decison up to Sean where to go. WE went to Roscoes on, get this, Roscoe and Halsted. Let me just say that place ROCKED!!! They had specials on pitchers of apple martinis and we got 2. I was so drunk. I watched the end of the Cubs game and I was so happy when they won. The rest of the time it was funky dance music videos, inlcuding its raining men by Geri Halliwell or whatever you know the ex spice girl.!.!.! and LOTS of Madonna. So yea fun times. I got a necklace of a plastic DeKupers bottle with a pen in it and I had to go Pee like SUPER bad after we left. I was like in pain the whole EL back and then the walk to Union Staion. Then I got on the train, into the train bathroom and WOW did that feel good. What a relief!

So I thought Sean missed the train. But he totally didn't. I called him after it left and he made it then came back to meet me and we then got home and I typed this. YAY

On Friday the 14th I went to the Cubs game with my pal Brett. We picked up some bleacher seats on good ole eBay for about face price. Thats a hot deal for sure for bleacher seats. It was a great time even though they lost. Well as soon as we bought the tickets Brett got 4 tickets for Sundays game so I also went to that game. All was going well until the 6th inning. The cubs were up 5-2 and then the bases got loaded and a grand slam was hit. Then Dumbass Baker finally switched pitchers for their basically worst reliever. Fine so he walks the bases loaded again. Douchey Baker leaves the bum in and guess what, another grand slam. So it wasn't done yet. Now they didn't even take that idiot pitcher out. I guess it didn't matter since now the cubs were down by 5. So he gives up another home run, this time only a 2 run shot. All told the half inning took 41 minutes which is ungodly. We left before the half inning was even over we were all so disgusted. I have also resolved to not go to another cubs game this year til they fire the damn coaches. I'll see how long I stick to that.

Ok so I know I don't live in Chicago but still, sometimes I think Chicago is a state of mind just as much as a place. So yup no blog post for Sunday the last day of the vacation. It was even more boring than the day before. More swimming and some shopping blah. We left on Monday very early and drove from Scottsdale to Tucson. Our flight was about an hour late in all which sucked but it could have been worse.

Today I had to work at 10:30, which normally isn't so bad. Well it was worse than normal today since i'm used to Arizona time and to me getting up at 9:45 felt like 7:45. But work went by fairly quickly and I survived so I guess its not all that bad, I mean hell it was holiday pay. Its amazing how work is so much more tolerable when you are getting $15 an hour ;)

I didn't end up taking as many pictures on vacation as I wanted but I still have some 12 rolls of film to be developed. I believe it works out to about just shy of 200 total pictures. It will take a while for me to get them all back since I am mailing most of them out of town to get processesed. Then I have to scan all the film in, which is another tedious process. But eventually you will all get to see a selection of vacation photos. Til then ciao!

Boring day in the Phoenix area...

So today I woke up at the late time of 9:30, how sad is that? I'm not used to getting up early like this, but the time difference of two hours has helped to ease that pain somewhat. So today I got up to my sister getting ready to leave for the pool and I rushed up and got dressed to go and we went on down. Rather than going straight into the pool we got breakfast. $6 for a bowl of cheerios with some cut up bananas and $7 for a glass of orange juice! Nuts eh? I guess thats what you get for having breakfast at a 5 star hotel. So we went swimming them for a couple of hours.

After that we basically spent the rest of the day running around to different stores and malls to see things people wanted to see. We went to my favorite bookstore that they have here. Its called Bookmans. I love this place so much. Its about the size of a regular Barnes and Nobles, and they sell all used books, movies, cds, magazines and video/computer games. Its a very sweet store. I didn't get anything at this one but picked up some sweet magazines at the ones I went to in Tucson earlier. So all in all a pretty boring and uneventful day.

Sedona bound...

Today we were woken up early, 8am, to drive up to Sedona for the day. Sedona is about 2 hours or so north of Phoenix. Sedona is a very pretty smaller town, its very earthy and artsy. Not only that though there are tons of beautiful red rocks around the area.

There has been a big forest fire burning just north of Sedona in the mountians that finally was brought under control a couple a days ago. We drove up the newly reopened high way and saw the burn scars. Suprisingly there wasn't all that much.

We had dinner at our favorite restraunt in Sedona this evening before coming home. Its this really nice family owned Italian restraunt. Now I know this may sound like heresy but they actually make my favorite pizza i've ever had. My sister got ravioli with a mixture of alfredo and marinara sauce and wow was it good.

So then driving home we stopped at this certain rest area because you could see another forest first that was just started yesterday. So these new forest fires were burning pretty well and we were watching them off in the distance from the rest stop. The darker it was getting the easier to see them it was. While we were there the winds were kicking up and a storm was brewing behind us. This fanned the flames and they were growing large. This could shut down that highway pretty soon.

Hello from Scottsdale...

So this morning we left Tucson and headed north to Phoenix, well Scottsdale to be technical. Its about a two hour drive but my sister and I played Mario Kart DS most of the way. Of course I was superior and triumphed in the best time.

When we made it to the Phoenix area we went to the cool shopping area right away to look for presents and jewlery. We all ended up buying stuff at this one store we really liked. Alot of the places there are very pushy and annoying but this one was run by a really nice guy so we were happy buying stuff there.

After we were done shopping we headed to our AMAZING hotel. Its a AAA 5 diamond resort, basically its one of the nicest you'll ever see. We are in a hotel room that is the size of a decent size apartment.

We had dinner at the amazing cowboy steak house, but not Amy she didn't get any steak. She had to get PF Changs. So now we are heading off for late night pool action. Cheers all...

The last night in Tucson...

Well today was our last full day in Tucson, tomorrow we head up north to Phoenix. I got up about 9:30 and found a note from our parents that they were at the pool so I got ready and my sister and I headed to meet them at the pool. We got there and ended up just going to breakfast instead. This put my sister into a snit and she was intent on not "running around all over" today. So in the end she stayed behind at the pool and we went out.

First we drove to the San Xavier Misson. This is supposed to be a really cool and very old Spanish mission on an indian reservation. Well we get there and half of its covered in Scaffolding. LAME. So we went on and then went to Old Tuscon. Its a place were many famous westerns were filmed and its not a tourist trap. I remember it being super awsome when I was a kid so I really wanted to go. Well its not as cool as I was a kid. It was pretty tacky actually. We stayed for a while and then hit up Bookmans on the way home. Thats the used bookstore the size of a Barnes and Nobles. It rocks. I got a couple magazines and thats it sadly.

After that we went to the pool for like 3 hours then had to go to the Maccaroni Grill for dinner. We couldn't have gone to somewhere different that is not available to us at home. No we had to go to Maccaroni Grill. I'm not really fond of it, and the food i got today was kind bland but I lived. So now the whole trip my sister was talking about Beaver Hunter one of the porns on the in room pay movie channels. So i basically dared her to order it. So now we are watching it. Its so bad lol.

Today my sister woke up at like 7:30 and of course she managed to wake me up also. She proceded to leave for the pool/breakfast right away. I tried to go back to sleep but failed. So at about 8:30 I left to meet them at the pool. Well I found my sister and parents having breakfast, I didn't care since I had a PBJ in the room, my sister got the breakfast buffett. OMG it was $18.95!!! I guess she ate alot but eek still! So we swam til lunch then showered up and drove and had lunch at Scholotzky's Deli, YUM!

We drove to the Sonoran Desert Museum then. We stopped at a scenic look out that overlooked Squaro National Forest. It is a very beautiful area. I got some great pictures, I hope. We finally arrived at the desert museum and it was really sweet. They had tons of desert animals and cacti and other things. Things that happened at this place: Lots of pictures were taken, I saw a bunch of Javalinas, a hummingbird almost landed on my cubs hat and it scared me, my sister got a bug/plant bite and it iched really bad. I can't wait to develop my film, that place was sweet.

We got to see alot of lizards there too, not only there but they are just running around out by the Hotel also. Its really alot of fun to see random lizards running around. They are alot of fun to spot and then follow. They like to do what looks like push ups while standing still. My sister the science nerd says its them showing dominance. So I guess the lizards dominate us. Woahhhhh...

After the museum it looked like it was going to storm, and it did later. So we hung around the hotel room for a while trying to figure out if it was really going to rain. So we figured it would, and like I said it turns out we were right, so we went to go see a movie. As a family we went to see Nacho Libre. I've seen it before and really enjoyed it, and it was just as enjoyable the second time around. Its not as laugh out loud funny as Napoleon Dynamite, but it is a good show. Yes Bridgett I did enjoy a movie nachos this time :)

Hello again from Tucson...

So once again I'm posting from Tucson. Today we woke up at about 9:30 or so and got going and then got some breakfast, my sister had to have Bruggers Bagels, which I hate. So by the time we were done there I was going to get McDonalds but wah wah wah it was now too late. So I had to have burger king :( Then we went to the mall to get Jamba Juice, but ended up also going to Macys, Bath and Bodyworks, EB Games, and Dillards. I bought a cool polo ralph lauren shirt that has a flying scorpian on it. I also purchased Mario Kart DS which is fun indeed. So after that we stopped and got some bottled water and then went back and headed to the pool. We got in and swam for about two hours then it started raining and then we had to get out due to thunder :( It started raining really hard, and boy was it cold. So we came back to the room and after a while headed out to go to this awsome used bookstore where i picked up some used photo magazines then had dinner at this steak house at this cheesy "wild west" tourist town. Now the best part of it place... THEY HAD COWBOYS OF MOO MESA THE ARCADE GAME!!! It was amazing. It was a realy cool arcade game also, tons of fun. I was very happy to play that game. Amy had steak at dinner but a small one that also had a breast of chicken with it. So... Amy steak total: 22oz.

So we flew into Tucson yesterday and got here at 6pm local time (8pm back in Chicago). The local temperature was a cool 100. Not shabby. We got our rent-a-car and headed south to Tombstone. I remember someone asked me about tumbleweeds and I said no we wouldn't really see any, well I lied. There was a dust storm and on the two lane highway tumbleweeds were blowing across the road, and we hit one. It was sweet. The hotel in Tombstone was kinda tacky but the dinner we had in town was great. My sister is having a challange this trip, to try to eat 100oz. of steak. Her goal as of Saturday: 14oz.

Today we woke up and drove to Bisbee which is an old mining town, looked around, took some pictures and had lunch. It was a very cool little town. We drove back then to Tombstone since all the tourist traps were open. It was so lame, no pictures were taken by me. We stayed for a short time then headed out. We ended up going to these Caverns called the Kirtschner Caverns since my mom wanted to go. My sister was having a hissy fit about them but whatever. The caves sucked wicked bad. There was just a paved lighted walk way through them, and it smelled like a warm moist gym locker room. The worst was the final part where you sat down and they did a light show of the giant stalawhatevers. SO BORING. Now we are back in Tucson, in 5 star accomidations, and I finally have WIFI Huzzah! The plan for now is i'll post every night so check back. Amys steak goal as of Sunday: 14oz. :(

So on Thursday we went to the Cubs game and sure enough they managed to blow a lead and a wonderfully pitched game by Carlos Zambrano. Zambrano pitched wonderfully through 7 innings. Then Dusty, being the moron he is, brought in Bob Howery and he proceded to blow it. He didn't take him out finally until the damage was already done and the game was already lost. Other than that it was amazing. They were the best seats i've ever had, they were 4th row right behind home plate. You could see us basically every pitch on TV. So I guess I'm famous now ;) Going to Cubs games are alot of fun, sitting that close makes it even more fun. I wish I was wealthy and could afford some season tickets that close. Now that would be a hell of a time. So have any of you been to a Cubs game before?

On Sunday I picked up my new nintendo DS lite. Its awsome. It looks like an ipod just a little bit larger when folded down. Its so sweet, I got new super mario bros alont with it and all i can say is WOW. Its so much fun, it feels like an update on a good old classic. I highly recommend both.

Thursday we've got tickets for the Cubs game vs. the Houston Astros. Originally we were going to be sitting in the 8th row in left field. Then Bridgett's boss gave her tickets for the same game we were already going to. Well the tickets she got instead are like 3rd row directly behind the back stop. So if you are bored tune into WGN starting at 1:05pm you probably will see me if they really are as close as I plotted via the seating chart. Pictures will follow in the future.

A couple of months ago as some of you may be aware, the Adult Swim took a big chance and did two week of re-runs of saved by the bell on Monday-Thursday. At first my knee jerk reaction was "WTF?!?" I was shocked and not 100% happy that they were putting a live action show on the Adult Swim. Once I saw the first episode though I have to say I was sold. It was a great fit. They did amazing promos for the show and they just really seemed to fit well. In the end I wished they would have kept it on for longer than just 8 total episodes. Well fast foward to today. I found a wonderful new topic on the front page of Yahoo in the entertainment section THIS All I can say is HOT DAMN! What live action show could possibly be a better fit than Pee-Wee's Playhouse? I loved that show when I was a kid, and I really feel bad for Paul Ruebens. He was just a casulty of Americans inane obsession with celeberitys personal lives. So what if he jacked off in a PORNO theater? It was after all a PORNO theater, thats like saying they are going to arrest a woman for breast feeding at a maternity clothing store. But Fuck Yes I can't wait to see some Pee-Wee's Playhouse on TV again!

Ok so people actually responded to my post. Huzzah! So I will give more. Infact I'll give you a little present...

This is a photo that I took on the State St. bridge over the Chicago River. It was a warm day in spring, middle of April. I had a lot of time between classes so I went for a walk and started taking pictures. I probably walked about 4 to 5 miles that day in all but it was very envigorating. I was testing a roll of film here and taking a picture of the Marina Towers. I love the Marina Towers, I would love to live there some day. I think for me that is pretty much my dream place to live in Chicago. I'm not even sure if they are the nicest place but they represent Chicago to me. I lovingly refer to them as the "Wilco Towers", due to them gracing the cover of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot the wonderful Wilco album that if you don't own by now you should really just go and buy. So my question for discussion lets talk about things that represent a place to you. What specifically if you see it will just scream Chicago to you?

So yes I have been asked in the past by one Andy Kayacan to post on my blog again. Why bother though? I have nothing really to say, no one reads it, and blah blah blah. But tonight he dropped me an IM simply saying "post on your blog", before i could respond dashing that idea out of his mind he signed off. So now I have to do a blog entry since I couldn't say no. It was Andy playing dirty. But I bit, I took the bate and if you are actually reading this, but yes I know you aren't, well then you know that I took the bate. So here we go...

So i was watching Adult Swim reading GQ, a must read for all men, and I stumble upon an article declaring Chicago Americas new top culinary city. Basically it is guys being pretencious and "artistic" with food. Who really needs a 20 course "tasting course" menu for $175? Now don't get me wrong a couple of the things seemed intresting such as doughnut soup and flash frozen flapjacks done at your table. But all in all it seemed lame and over done, something that I would never try. I read it anyways though since it was Chicago, my beloved Chicago. So at the end they have the writers bio that says to go on to GQ.com and look up his archive that includes, hello, Americans Greatest Cheeseburger!!!

Now any of you who know me know I love a good cheeseburger. I have my favorites and I've tried many. So I read the article. Once again the guy seemed pompus, I'd wager he is an East Coaster, but to be fair i skimmed so I don't know if he is. Well anyways 1 of the places is from Chicago, Poag Mahone's on South Wells. Now I've seen this place before its in an office building. Chicago's best burger is not in one of its many lovely neighborhood establishments, but in a faceless boring office building. This office building isn't even one of Chicago's finer ones it is just a plain glass structure. As he is praising the joint he rips on Chicago's ability to make a good burger, and the Cubs (Fuck you to him). Why don't you read it and lets have a round table discussion on the state of Chicagos cheeseburger industry, or just cheeseburgers in General. Or hell i'll even talk Cubs with you, but if one of you bastards post about the WhiteTrash Sox i'll just delete the comment so don't push your luck ;)

So lets see I took this by dragging the trust old pig outside at 2am and then I set my camera up on a tripod and used a 30 second exposure. It wasn't exactly how I wanted, I would have liked to get the building and tree in the back in focuse too. But I think I know how to fix that tomorrow night. So i finally hooked up my brand new monitor *drum roll*

A Dell 2405FPW a nice 24" widescreen LCD monitor with an astonishing 1920x1200 resolution. Thats right folks my monitor can display 1080p HD resolution :-D

Well after trying the DVI i found out that Erics old FX5200 can't give a high enough resolution so now i'm on the analog input but that works fine. I'll use DVI when i get my computer fixed up finally.

So my old 21" CRT monitor is now at its new home, Eric Reynolds basement. I was such a good friend I gifted my good buddy with it. It served me well with nearly 5 years of service, so hopefully it can give him a few more good years.

Well I just got done with Inventory, for the second night in a row. I really don't feel like posting but I said I would so here it is. Now the question is, what should I post about? I haven't the slightest clue. I'm sure none of you really care what I've been up to, or you already know. So why don't I just spare you those details.

Sadly summer is drawing to an end. I really think August is basically the worst month of the year when you are still in school. You spend the entire month dreading the return of school, well unless you are a nerd and want to go back. So once again here is August. So lets all make the most of August shall we? You wouldn't want to go back to school sad because you didn't get to do all the things you wanted to do. So rather than me actually have a post, this post is all about you the readers. I want you to post for me the things that you want to but haven't yet done this summer. Those will be your August goals. NOW DO IT DAMNIT!

August goals for me. I want to go to the Lincolin Park Zoo, I want to go to the Rennisance Fair and more of a far out goal would be to take some sort of multi day road trip. So now I want to see yours...

So i knew it wouldn't last. While in Madison Bridgett managed to get me hooked on Sex and the City. There goes my masculinity down the drain. What can I say though, it was just really good. I was wired off my ass on allergy medicine and cherry pepsi so I stayed up til 5:30am watching the Season 6 box set. Well part of it Anyways.

The Madison trip was lots of fun, driving up there and back was even really fun. We saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. While some haven't liked it as much as the original I did. I found the new Ompaa Loompas funny and enjoyed their updated songs. My favorite part was the squirrel sorting room. I mean what isn't funny about squirrels swarming a naughty little girl and beating her up?

Lets see on Thursday the lovely Bridgett and I attended The Dollhouse at the Goodman Theater. It was my special suprise for her. I think I did a valient job of keeping the secret, I was proud of myself. I'm really horrible with keeping suprises so it was tough. She was guessing and almost guessed it right but not quite. That was a fun time.

Today I'm just getting ready to head up to Glencoe and from there head over to Madison with Bridgett to see her best friend Kristen for her birthday. I'm not sure what we are doing yet, there was some talk about seeing * :( * collective soul. I think we may not go to that though, so i'm crossing my fingers. On they way home we might stop in Sussex, Wi to look at a Porsche i saw for sale on Ebay so that may be intresting. Also we are making a stop in Waukegan to meet Bridgett's mother and sister for Dinner. So that sounds like a busy weekend to me. Then Back to Carsons on monday Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

So I just got back from Oswego with Josh Stein. He wen't to get a harness bar for some 5 or 6pt. harnesses for some Drivers Education action for his Porsche. So we get there and there is a 911 parked in the driveway and another up on a jack stand in the garage. Next to that was an engine on a stand with this guy Souk working on it. Kevin was there too also helping out. Behind him was a transmission sitting on the ground. This wasn't stock porsche crap either, this was some nicely modded stuff. It was for a Porsche (big sigh of dissapointment) drag racer, for a mafia kid none the less lol.

So why do I feel so manly? I was in a garage, with cars being worked on, beer being drank and I GOT GREASE ON MY HANDS! Ok ok it was just from picking up a clutch assembly to hand to Josh who was helping test fit it but it was grease still damnit! What a fun time for doing very little...

On Land of the Dead...

Yes I did see Land of the Dead (twice I might add) and yes I actually did enjoy it quite a bit. I have to say though if you haven't seen the movie yet and you plan on it you may want to stop reading this post because i'm going to give some spoilers if I feel like it...

Ok still reading? Good good. First of all I liked that that zombies learned and were able to "think" to a limited extent. I think that is a good extension of the Day of the Dead. From what I gathered the movie is about 3 years after the outbreak began, so I figure at a minimum its 2 years past Day of the Dead. That gives the zombies about 2 years to learn to use tool and gather together. Day of the Dead showed that they could be trained, that all it took was someone to teach them. It was "Dr. Frankenstein" in Day of the Dead and in Land of the Dead we get Big Daddy. He is a king among Zombies. I like his character, he is an amazing zombie. Romero did a good job of making Big Daddy into the David like character against the Goliath humans. I think the audience deep down always was pulling for Big Daddy and his band of zombies.

I am glad that the movie only had a budget of around $15million. This made sure that the movie wouldn't look overproduced or over done. There was very little if any CGI which for a zombie movie is a good thing if you ask me. As a result some of the scenes looked a little cheesy due to cut aways but I think that adds to a zombie movie. Zombie movies are meant to be cheesy and campy. They are not meant to be big budget hollywood summer popcorn movies. That would take away the "soul" of the zombie movie.

Land of the Dead is a very good zombie movie and it gives me hope that maybe we will get another movie from Romero after this one. This movie made $10million its first weekend. That means its first weekend recouped 2/3 of the cost of filming. This means the movie will be profitable in the theaters, then comes the DVD which usually makes just as much if not more money. So now maybe Romero will be able to secure more funding for more wonderful zombie movies. Sure this movie had its weak points, but if you take it for what it is I think you will enjoy it.

OK fine so I guess I don't post enough. So what is a boy to do about it? Well I guess I have to post some more. I didn't say it was going to be a good post but I'm going to post none the less damnit!

First off is the section that 90% of you won't give a shit about. My thoughts on a new Porsche. What I really want is whats called a long hood 911. Meaning one produced between 1964-1973. Its the cool vintage style. After 1973 they are called short hoods because the hood gets shorter, and there is big fat ugly bumpers on it. The problem with just buying a long hood is they are very expensive for one. When I was originally looking for a Porsche they were quite reasonable but have exploded in price recently. Another option for me would be to buy one of the later short hoods and do whats called a back date. That involves removing the bumpers and fenders and replacing them with older sheetmetal or aftermarket fiberglass. This will cost about $1000 for the parts then who knows for instalation and paint lol. But it saves alot of weight, which is always good right Josh? So who knows maybe i'll buy a newer 911 now.

Yesterday I went to a wedding for a realative. It was kinda lame. They had the cerimony on the south side at some historical cultural center right on lake Michigan. I thought the place looked kinda tacky, the restoration was pretty lame I thought. Then the reception was on the Odessy II cruise boat on Lake Michigan. The food seemed like something straight out of American Psycho. It was no Dorcia though that is for sure. I had some Lobster Ravioli with a lobster and brandy reduction, The Dragondog Blog called it and uninspiring dish which left alot to be desired. The reception was nice but not my bag. Oh and the band sucked!

So I haven't really posted in a while since nobody really commented. I've decided not to do a play by play recap of the zombie game. Its just too much work. I'd be glad to talk about it if people want to ask questions in comments otherwise i'll just talk about other stuff.

So I am now officially the part time Polo Ralph Lauren specialist at carsons. So far it seems like a pretty sweet gig. It will be nice to get to focus on some clothes that I at least somewhat like rather than have to deal with everything from Sean John to Crapcensus.

Now that i'm going to be making more money and have at least 20 hours a week its time for Andy to get another car of his very own. Did I learn my lesson about impracticle gas guzzling cars? Hell no! I'm getting another Porsche most likely. I mean there is a small chance i will be somewhat more practicle and get like an early 90s 500SL or a late 90s/early 2000s C class, but really what fun is that?

So yes there was the zombie game today but I have also done other stuff since my last post. Friday and Saturday I worked. It was boring, it was long, I was sad. Sunday Bridgett and I got up early and went to the Kane Co. flea market. We wandered about, and bought nothing but food. It was pretty fun none the less though. We watched movies afterwards and had some chinese. It was good times.

That brings me to a movie recommendation. Dirty Filty Love. No its not pornography, its a British movie about a man with OCD and Tourette's Syndrome. He deals with a divorce which forces him deeper into his afflictions. He also deals with love and support from a group of other people suffering from OCD in a support group. Its a very intresting movie, with some good spots. I'd check it out if I were you.

Tomorrow brings us "Get Behind Me Satan" from the White Stripes. I shall purchase it before work and hopefully give it a listen afterwards. I'll be sure to give my impressions. Oasis is coming out with a new CD tomorrow also. I'm somewhat tempted to give it a go, but I'm just not sure. I haven't heard any of their new songs to tell me if it will be worth it or not. So i'll have to see how I feel tomorrow.

We have zombie lift off...

Today the new zombie game had its first session. Characters were made for the first few hours and then some gaming did commence. I think so far so good. There are a few things I'd like to work on, mainly utilizing dual GM power. But the game must be multi-threaded to take advantage of dual GMs. That will be utilized in the future if the need arises.

The game wasn't too eventful today. First the players awoke after being drunken and passed out at Dan's appartment. The game started right after Eric Reynolds party. Dan awoke to the smell of smoke and noticed a burning car outside near his tennis field. It was determined that the appartment was on fire and everyone got out. Cars were stolen and only Rob's and Charlie's car still exsisted. Everyone then went to my house to check it out, except Dan who stayed behind then checked out Target, which was looted and in dis-repair. All of the players houses were pretty much the same. Some weapons and food was gathered, then we headed towards Brookfield after not very sucessful attempts to obtain fuel from gas stations. At Dan's uncle's house in Brookfield we arrived at a house with the door open and bodies and blood making a trail inside. Dan by himself went inside the basement to find a trail of dead bodies with headshots, and spent handgun shells and magazines. Finally he found his uncle and his family eaten by zombies in the corner. He pryed his uncles guns out of his cold dead hands, to find them empty. Upstairs he founds zombies for the first time, they chased him for a bit and came outside where the rest of us melee'd and killed 2 of them. Dan was able to get back inside and to the ammo stash where he found 1 bullet and ran back around. Now more zombies were coming for us. So Dan, Sean and Rob ran back inside and went upstairs to try to get more than 1 bullet. Meenwhile Ann, Chrysee, Charlie, Eric, and I all got into 2 cars and drove around and ran over and distracted zombies. The group found no bullets inside just more zombies, and got back outside and into the cars and that is where we ended.

Sounds like alot, but it was only a couple of hours of playing.

A day in the life of boring Fridays...

So yeah I was up today at 9am for work, hot damn am I lucky or what? I guess today was pay day so that is a good day. I sold my Geforce 6800GT agp to Eric Reynolds so now i've got even more money. Its dual opteron board with PCI-e for me now.

I can't accept any requests for the zombie game now, Hans was the last possible player. So Hans make sure you talk to me if you want to play, sorry everyone else.

So I am listen to The Bravery again right now. Let me tell all of you who have yet to hear The Bravery, go listen to them now!!! They rock very hard. The lead singer is hilarious looking, it makes me think of rockabilly meets Flock of Seagulls. Wild Stuff. The CD rocks indeed. And also White Stripes new CD comes out June 7th. It is called "Get Behind Me Satan" I believe. I'll be getting mine on Tuesday will you?

The requested post about zombies...

Ok so i recieved a comment asking for a post about zombies. Well who am i to say no, so here we are.

Some of you may know there was a zombie game that was run using the World of Darkness rules some time ago. The game has since dissolved and the group fractured. That doesn't mean that we don't still love zombies though.

So starting Monday there will be a new, and vastly improved, zombie game. Eric Reynolds and I are going to be co-GM'ing it. Once again the players will play themselves in a zombie apocalypse. We will be building on the greatness of the first month of the original zombie game. There will be no blast doors, no crazy hallways, no mini guns (and certainly not 8), no crazy underground military like group, and most importantly NO CURE!

How can you put a cure for the zombie afliction in a zombie game? The answer is you can't. It will ruin the game, and it did. Zombies are no longer frightening if all you have to do is inject yourself and you are cured. A zombie game thrives on fear and the need to survive. A cure removes it.

So I'll keep you all updated maybe...

Having my arm twisted from a great distance...

Why is it that I can have my arm twisted from Iowa? Am I really that weak of will that a constant barrage of words from Iowa can make me make a blog? Well the answer is yes since you are reading this. Yes the psudeo-mythic Andy Kayacan has made me create this blog. Don't expect a hell of alot from it, or me for that matter. I really don't have alot to talk about. Unless you would like to hear about random pointless drivel... Well i'm sure you do!

So now that school is done for the summer I need something to do other than work. Will this blog be it? Doubtful. Maybe I will finally update www.dragondog.org ? Unlikely, but hey stranger things have happened. I do know that BBQ lovin' must happen though, and now that we are all 21 that BBQ lovin' must include a good helping of booze lovin'. Just like the lovely drink I had last night when I was having dinner with Bridgett yesterday at Bar Louie on Damen. I asked for a zombie, they weren't really sure what it was but the waitress asked the bartender i guess and I got a really strong drink of rum and pineapple juice. Best part you ask? It was only $3.
